Step 1: Pick your Pokémon/den

If you want to host shiny Pokémon, you should have a particular Pokémon in mind, shouldn't you?

Well, even if you don't, Serebii (pronounced like Celebi but with an R) has a list of all the raid dens.

You can click on the pokémon and/or the raid den name to see the specifics of each den.

The left column are the pokémon found in common, or red beams. The right column has the pokémon found in the rare or purple beams. You will need to take note of if the 'mon you want is in a common or rare den.

When you click on the den, specifics of the Pokémon in the den will appear, including the spawn rate.

As you may know, raid pokémon have stars, which correspond to the approximate though not always guaranteed number of perfect IVs the Pokemon will have. Some pokémon have more than one possibility of the number of stars they have, like Ferroseed in this den. Others only have one possibility but that's usually higher, like Whimsicott.

The percentages next to them is the likelihood this particular Pokémon with that specific number of stars will appear. Having more than one possibility of stars increases the overall chances of the Pokémon, if you don't care about the IVs.

You should know that pokemon of certain stars are only obtainable before/after a certain number of gym badges. Here is a reference of them:

However, after you get 8 badges, you can only get pokémon of 3-5 stars. This means 1-2 star pokémon are not available at this point. Keep that in mind if you have any investment in baby pokémon and haven't beaten the game yet. Alternatively, you can play the game on a different Switch account as long as it has the Nintendo Service Online membership.

Once you have your den, take note of the pool number and game. (Make sure you're checking Pokémon available in your game!) You can also find the pool number in your browser's address bar.

Then scroll down to the bottom of the den page and take note of the den's location. If you've forgotten the rarity of the pool of pokémon, this page will remind you here as well.

There are multiple dens in the Wild Area that have the same exact pool of pokémon, which is why sometimes there are multiple areas listed, like for this one. The den location doesn't make a difference in shininess, but when you pick which den location you'd like to use, keep note of it.

Now it's time to open your game...
